And it begins…
If 2012 was a breakout year for Frank Ocean, then 2013 promises to be a year of recognition! The Odd Future singer is expected to be nominated for a slew of awards this year (including a Grammy or two) for his debut Channel Orange album, and it seems like the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation want to be sure that they are first in line!
GLAAD (who is most famous to me as being the organization that always speaks out when a person in the public eye acts homophobic) is honoring Ocean with a nomination for an Outstanding Music Artist Media Award for his ground-breaking album.
According to GLAAD, the awards are given to “recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.”
Ocean, who discussed his sexuality in an open letter last July, is up against Adam Lambert, Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters, and Gossip, for the award.
The 24th annual GLAAD Media Awards will occur over the span of three separate events located in New York (March 16), Los Angeles (April 20) and San Francisco (May 11).
Good luck to Ocean! He made a fantastic album, and now it’s time to watch the awards pile up!
