First Lady Michelle Obama Gets A Grammy Nomination!

When the Grammy nominations were announced last week, we were so shocked by the Minaj/Bieber snub, one nominee fell under the radar — Michelle Obama!

The First Lady his been nominated in the spoken word category for her reading of American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America. The book chronicles the story of the White House Kitchen garden, the first lady’s efforts to get Americans gardening in their own communities. It also contains recipes and a history of gardening in the White House.

Mrs. Obama tells People Magazine, she hopes that the nomination will keep “the conversation going about how we can all work together to ensure a healthy future for all our nation’s children.” She also calls the nomination an honor not just for her “but for everybody who contributed to the garden and the audio book, from the National Parks Service employees to our White House chefs to our beekeeper.”

She’s not the only one in the first family to be nominated for a Grammy. President Obama was nominated and won both in 2006 and 2008 in the spoken-word category for his books Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope.

The Grammy Awards will air February 10, 2013 on CBS. There’s no word on whether Michelle Obama will actually attend the ceremony.
