On the court Kobe Bryant is fighting to bring the LA Lakers another championship with Steve Nash and Dwight Howard. But off the court, the NBA star is fighting for an even greater cause — ending homelessness. For the past year Bryant has been working with The Los Angeles Mission, a non profit organization that cares for homeless people on Skid Row, which houses the largest population of homeless in the U.S.
Now just in time for the holidays, Bryant is releasing Mission, a five part web series to raise awareness about the growing epidemic. Each episode follows Bryant as he sits down and has candid conversations with the men and women inhabiting Skid Row to help them get back on their feet.
Bryant said he became inspired to do something after taking notice of the area one day after leaving the Staples Center:
“The hardest thing about it is understanding how to help people who don’t want to be helped or know they need help…we can easily sit back and say well they made their bed, now they have to lie in it, but what type of people are we to do that”
Bryant Partnered with TakePart TV to create the web series which began airing on their YouTube channel November 13. You can see a teaser for the web series below and all five of the episodes by visiting www.youtube.com/takepartTV.
