DJ Khaled Excuses Lil Wayne’s Rant Against Miami

To DJ Khaled, the “F” in Weezy F. Baby may stand for “forgiveness.”  In an interview with MTV, the Miami music producer explained why he didn’t get upset when Lil Wayne seemingly took shots at his city.

If you recall, during the NBA All-Star weekend, Weezy went on a public rant against the Miami Heat (specifying certain players), and the city they represented.  Although Lil Wayne later apologized to Miami, many Miami hip-hop natives were still cool on him, including Pitbull.  Pitbull even released a new song, called “Welcome to Dade County,” in which he clapped back at Weezy with these lyrics:

“You talk Miami, if you talkin’ heat/Moral of the story: Don’t s— where you eat.”

Unlike Pitbull and many others, DJ Khaled was one of the few who didn’t take offense.  He explained:

“Miami is my city.  I rep Miami and I feel like the Miami Heat is my team.  I felt like Wayne went on the radio and showed love to the city and bigged up the city and its love.”

With that in mind, Khaled chalked up Weezy’s All-Star rant to misunderstanding and an over enthusiasm for sports.  He elaborated:

“I’ve learned in this game there’s a lot of misunderstandings, miscommunications, so it’s about love, man, and I know it’s love.”

Khaled added this piece of advice for Weezy:

“When you’re passionate about your sports, you can’t really let it be known because if you know how much I really like the Jets, you might not be my friend anymore…When it got back to Miami, it turned into, [Weezy] just said ‘eff Miami.’  It had nothin’ to do with the sports teams no more.  When that was everything it had to do with; it was sports, and that’s it.”

Do you agree with Khaled’s take on the situation?  For Lil Wayne’s sake, hopefully he’ll follow Khaled’s advice.  The bad publicity of the last few months has seemed to take a toll on Weezy – as he was once again hospitalized for seizures.  (This is the third known incident in 5 months!)
