Last night, demonstrators gathered in New York, Florida and California to honor slain Florida teenager, Trayvon Martin. Martin was gunned down in Orlando on February 26, 2012 by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer that claims he acted in self-defense after being attacked by the 17-year-old.
Jamie Foxx joined Martin’s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, as well as hundreds of protesters for a candlelight vigil in New York City’s Union Square on Tuesday. Jamie said a few words before singing, “No Weapon Shall Prosper”.
Earlier this week, celebrities like Rocsi Diaz, Roland Martin, Estelle, Russell Simmons, Cornell West and others sent out tweets in remembrance of Martin.
Last year, millions of people put their hoodies up demanding a trial for the murdered teenager, and now due in part to those efforts, a trial has been set for June 10.
