Oprah Winfrey, Alfe Woodard, Garbrielle Union, Naomie Harris, Mara Brock Akil, and Quvenzhané Wallis were all honored today at the Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon and HipHollywood was there to catch up with the leading ladies!
Oprah Winfrey, who received the Power Award, tells HipHollywood, “It’s really special because it’s Essence, and Essence is me. Essence is every black woman who grew up reading the pages, and every black woman who wanted to be part of something bigger than the world told her she could be.”
The always fierce and fab Gabrielle Union was awarded with the Fierce and Fearless Award. “To be recognized for the journey and my evolution from scared young girl, insecure, to fully fledged woman who is living her truth, who is truly fierce and fearless, feels awesome,” the actress shares.
The Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon not only celebrates the contributions black women have made to the film and television industry, but is also an inspiring encounter with power and beauty. How fitting that these women gather during Black History month as they boldly stride towards making history themselves!
