In Case U Missed It: Tina Turner Plans To Become A Swiss Citizen!

In other odd news of the day – soul legend Tina Turner is throwing America the deuces as she begins the process of giving her her US citizenship back!

In all fairness Turner, who’s most famous for her hit song “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” has been saying “what’s the United States got to do with it,” for YEARS now, ever since she made Switzerland her home in 1995.

Now she’s making it official.

The 73-year-old soul singer from Nutbush, Tennessee has taken the first steps towards Swiss citizenship.  Turner has already has passed the initial tests and interview needed to become a Swiss citizen, and is now just waiting for approval from the Swiss state.  According to her reps, this means that:

“Tina Turner will therefore also give back her U.S. citizenship.”

Even though Turner’s called Switzerland home since the 90′s, the news still comes as a shock considering her iconic all-American soul status.  She first rose to music stardom with her abusive first husband Ike Turner, and became a poster child for powerful women after she divorced him and and went solo.  Turner later went on to become a bigger star than ever before, and is credited with influencing a varied number of female artists after her, including Cher, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, Cyndi Lauper and Beyoncé.

In an interview with the German newspaper Blick, Turner said:

“I am very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here. I could not imagine a better place to live.”
