It’s A Boy! Shakira Welcomes New Baby Into The World

Columbian sensation Shakira and her soccer star boyfriend Gerard Piqué have just welcomed a new baby boy into the world!

The multi-talented beauty announced the arrival of her first child via her website, writing:

We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain.

The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification.

Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.

The hospital confirmed that the couple’s first child weighed approximately 6lbs. 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are in excellent health.

The couple, who have been together for 2 years, eagerly prepared for little Milan’s arrival – by donating gifts to less fortunate children throughout the world.

Last week Shakira hosted a her own UNICEF Virtual Baby Shower (she’s a UNICEF ambassador), where she encouraged her fans to “purchase of life-saving items” or donate money, which would be sent to children “in some of the poorest parts of the world.”  The couple released a statement saying:

“To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations.”
